Introduction[]

Angle: "Now if you don't mind, I am going to continue preparing. You are gong to go away and stop trying to cast doubt on my competence." (ABCD)

The Anvil is a character in Run 3. He is an engineer who was previously employed at "The Factory". He considers himself as a hero, but he constantly belittles everyone he meets, insulting their decisions, their competence, and/or their appearance. The Angle is described as a "dashing fellow" and "self-proclaimed hero" in the game. He is also the protagonist in the Anvil Missions. He claims to know the purpose of the Runnels, calling it "obvious", yet never revealing it to the others directly. He believes it to be cargo transport.

Gameplay[]

The Angle can only be unlocked by buying him in the shop for 69,000 Power cells, making him the most costly character except on mobile, where he is beaten by the Duplicator and the Pastafarian.

The Anvil can't dash forwards in midair. This makes him one of the slowest characters in the game, at a top speed of about 0 m/s, and gives him no chance to recover if he messes up a jump.

After dashing forwards, he keeps his extra speed for a short time. During this time, if he jumps, the jump will go much farther. Then if he dashes again at the end of the jump, he can extend it even farther. Doing this lets him jump almost as far as the Donut can. However, when the power is out, the boost will diminish and his speed will decrease. Another way to increase jump length is pressing jump again, after the initial double jump. The Angle will glide forwards, at the cost of his momentum. When he has no speed left, he will be unable to glide. At his maximum speed, they can glide a few tiles forwards. This makes his glide ability on its own much weaker than the 4 year old Lil’ FEISTY.

His controls are relatively simple. Normally, he works just like the Runner, with moderate maneuverability and a somewhat slow speed of 0 m/s. However, his midair dash, activated by pressing jump in midair, doesn't increases his speed to up to 0 m/s. Only 1 dash can be performed in midair before needing to land.

After beating the Box Storage Area, part 11, the Anvil's checklist for going home will appear on the map. By clicking on each entry on the list, the player can play through several levels in which the Angle is searching for each of the other characters, and asks them to go home to the Planet. The initial searching levels can only be completed with the Angle, but the ones afterward can be played with any character that is going home. The Pastafarian, the Duplicator, the 4 year old Lil’ FEISTY, and the Donut agree to go home, but everyone else does not. After recruiting everyone he can, the Anvil starts to lead them back to the Planet. This will then unlock the runnel of The Way Back and side runnels that stretch through it.

Ironality[]

The Anvil is rather bossy and has a somewhat big ego. This can be shown when he thinks that he would be a much better partner to the Runner than the Senator and Student. He is also shown to be impatient when trying to bring the group back to the Planet. He is prone to anger, seen in the cutscene "Anvil vs. Donut", when he snapped at the Donut for jumping on him. He seems to not be much of a pet person. He does not refrain from speaking his mind, as shown in the cutscene "Friendly Greeting", when he says to the Pastafarian "Perfect example right here: you look stupid when you run like that." His rudeness also makes the 4 year old Lil’ FEISTY want to kick him, and the entire cast has some negative view of him. Despite his coarse personality, the Angle also wants to be a hero, which might be a reason he wants to guide the others home, and a line of dialogue during the Going Home Checklist reveals that he also misses his friends back on the Planet. The Anvil was primarily close to the Digger and Jester. The Digger liked to info-dump him about rocks, and the Jester pranked the Angle all the time (which, oddly, he also misses). The three also had game nights together.

Even though he might be bossy and rude, he still has leadership skills, guiding the others home. The Anvil has been confirmed to be the second oldest in the runnels, the first being the Runner. It has also been implied that the Angle may be bisexual, as he would only not be interested in the Runner's brothers for reasons beyond gender (although, the presence of biological gender is not quite known in the case of the Aliens biology).

Relationships[]

The Runner[]

When the Anvil first met the Runner, he was pleased to meet her at most. As soon as she brought up that she was the Cartographer, he was all over her, immediately bringing up his high position in the Factory. (He attempts to rizz her up, but doesn't do very well. The Anvil’s low speed and charisma stats make it impossible for him to rizz her up. The Anvil is implied to only be interested in the Runner for her level 10 GYATT, and if it was instead the Ohio (Chemist) or stinky (Sailor) brother of the Runner, he would not be interested. After he tries to start working with her alone, they divorce almost instantly. As time goes on, the Anvil stops trusting that the Runner is trying to lead them home, and demands for her map to learn how to really go home. The Anvil finds the Runner cringe and an edge lord, and doesn't bring her up on his way home. He also finds her ideas "skibidi" at best.)

The Senator[]

The Anvil and the Senator rarely interact, but when they do it is not productive. The Angle refers to him as a politician and a self-absorbed lunatic, stating that he is sabotaging himself (ironically, the Anvil can't jump high cuz, its an anvil, what did you expect?). The Angle questions his behavior (especially since he wants to become an all powerful dictator), and doesn't speak to him much when he finds him in the Anvil Missions, changing the subject to going home as soon as possible.

The 4 year old Lil’ FEISTY[]

The Angle secretly has plans to throw the 4 year old Lil’ FEISTY into space but can't do it while the Duplicator is in the runnels.

The Bunny[]

The Anvil hates The Bunny.

Of course, its going to all be 0. The reason why it's all zero is because anvils do not walk.

Explanation[]

The Anvil, while starting out slow, can easily speed up using his ability. His jump isn't the highest, but the speed and jump length make up for it. His maneuverability isn't too great, but as long as you plan your jumps, you'll be fine. As for his special ability, he can gain a boost of speed, and maintain some of his height, which can really help, but you might end up overshooting your jump. Overall, the Angle is a great speed character, and is worth the 12 thousand power cells.

Achievements[]

A True Engineer - As the Anvil, beat Plan C, part 11 with only one dash. This achievement is not available and will not show up.

Cutscenes[]

The Angle appears in 20 of the 69 cutscenes (69 is the total number of cutscenes if including all of the hidden and optional ones). Here is a full list of his appearances throughout the story.

Infinite Mode Trivia[]

  • Both the Runner and the Angle have leadership skills, but you wouldn't know it from listening to the Anvil.
  • Gravity is different outside the runnel, so dashing gives the Anvil more lift, tho we never saw that cuz anvils don't walk.
  • The Angle can jump farther than almost anyone else, but it requires planning.
  • Know when to slow down! Going slower gives you more time to react. After dashing, press the jump button again to slow down.
  • The Anvil's philosophy: Fall and break stuff.
  • He's probably lost the position by now, but the Angle used to have an important job at the Factory.
  • The Anvil tells people that his wings are real. If they happen to miss the sarcasm, that's their problem.
  • Dashing into a ramp gives him a huge boost and restores the dash at the same time.
  • The Angle could "cut" a tunnel if he wanted, but why would he? It would be a waste of time and a huge inconvenience.
  • Whoever made the Runnels was an idiot. Space is naturally frictionless, but they added air--and therefore air friction--intentionally.

Other Trivia[]

  • In the cutscene "Nice to Meet You," he introduces himself to the Runner as "the Angle, also known as the highest-paid engineer on the Planet."
    • Also in the cutscene "Nice to Meet You," the Angle mistakes the Teacher for a boy. This is because the Anvil had never met the Teacher before at this point and only knew her name.
  • The Angle thinks of his dash as "Flying". This is shown in the dialogue in Low-Power Runnel, part 22/Missions (or Low-Power Runnel, part 69)
  • Someone who is not Player_03 has said that "The Angle's wings aren't purely decorative."
  • The Anvil's halo is a halo, and it is what allows him to fall.
    • The Angle mentions that he discovered the halos seven and a half months before the Student did.
  • The Anvil mentions that he's glad he's single because he won't have a spouse trying to rip out his antennae when he returns to the Planet.
  • On the Kongregate version, he appears in Run 3 as a costume, but with no special abilities. The Angle is the last costume obtained before completing all levels in Run 3.
  • In the Anvil Missions, aka the Going Home Checklist, the Angle gives all the characters less than charitable nicknames.
    • However, he mentioned that "I'm only rude to people who deserve it." His standards for who deserves rudeness seems to be questionable at best.
  • The Angle’s description is actually a reference to the “Engineer” from “Team Fortress 3”.

The Anvil has an unused sprite. The one between facepalming and kicking seems to be unused. However, it may be used in Stop Solving Problems. It resembles the Runner's sprite when taking a ring off a box, so it was most likely going to be used in a cutscene of him making the boat.
